Born and raised in Hobart, Oklahoma, J Rod Wald grew up surrounded by wide-open spaces, small-town grit, and a deep connection to the southwest Oklahoma country. His family spent long days working on the farm, teaching him early what hard work really meant. Sitting on a tractor or hauling hay for hours at a time, Wald found himself inspired to write songs in a pocket notepad he kept with him everywhere he went.

Music entered his life early when his oldest brother came home from college with a brand-new guitar. From that moment on, all J Rod wanted to do was play like his brother. He taught himself by ear, spending countless hours chasing the feeling music gave him and turning curiosity into obsession.

It was during those long days of farm work that songwriting became a habit rather than a hobby. Out of boredom and curiosity came creativity, and over the years, songs continued to stack up. That process eventually led to his first release, “Oklahoma Girl.” That first single lit a fire—writing, singing, and sharing his story became something he couldn’t walk away from.

After high school, Wald chose to pursue both music and higher education, a decision that pushed him beyond the comfort of home and onto the stage more often than ever before. As his catalog grew, so did his confidence as a performer, earning him opportunities to share the stage with established artists and connect with new audiences.

Rooted in Oklahoma values and driven by honest storytelling, J Rod Wald writes songs that live somewhere between faith, ambition, and the restless pull of the road. Grateful for every opportunity and hungry for what’s next, he’s building his career the right way—one song, one show, and one story at a time.
